Fire Role and Responsibilities

The Fire Department is responsible for fire prevention, firefighting, rescue operations, and emergency response to protect life, property, and public safety within the Municipal Corporation area.

  1. Fire Prevention & Safety Regulation
  • Enforcement of fire safety norms in buildings and public places
  • Inspection of residential, commercial, industrial, and high-rise buildings
  • Issuance and renewal of Fire Safety No Objection Certificates (Fire NOC)
  • Identification of fire hazards and recommending corrective measures
  1. Fire Fighting & Emergency Response
  • Prompt response to fire incidents within municipal limits
  • Operation and maintenance of fire stations, fire tenders, and equipment
  • Deployment of trained personnel for fire suppression operations
  • Coordination with police, health services, and disaster response teams
  1. Rescue & Special Emergency Operations
  • Rescue operations during:
    • Fires
    • Building collapses
    • Road accidents
    • Floods and other disasters
  • Use of specialized rescue equipment and techniques
  • Saving life and minimizing damage during emergencies
  1. Disaster Management Support
  • Active role in municipal and district disaster management plans
  • Emergency preparedness for natural and man-made disasters
  • Participation in mock drills and emergency simulations
  • Support during floods, earthquakes, industrial accidents, etc.
  1. Fire Safety Awareness & Training
  • Public awareness programs on fire safety and prevention
  • Conducting fire drills in schools, hospitals, industries, and offices
  • Training of municipal staff and private institutions in basic fire safety
  • Promotion of safe practices and emergency preparedness
  1. Infrastructure & Equipment Management
  • Maintenance of fire stations and sub-stations
  • Upkeep of fire engines, hydraulic platforms, rescue tools, and PPE
  • Ensuring adequate water sources for firefighting (hydrants, tanks)
  • Coordination with Water Supply Department for emergency water needs
  1. Staff Training & Capacity Building
  • Recruitment, training, and skill development of fire personnel
  • Physical fitness, safety training, and specialization courses
  • Discipline, duty rosters, and operational readiness
  1. Fire Investigation & Reporting
  • Investigation of major fire incidents
  • Preparation of fire incident reports and damage assessments
  • Assistance to police and insurance agencies when required
  • Maintenance of fire statistics and records
  1. Inter-Departmental & External Coordination
  • Coordination with:
    • Police Department
    • Health & Ambulance Services
    • Electricity & Water Departments
    • Disaster Management Authorities
  • Joint action during emergencies and major incidents
  1. Legal & Statutory Functions
  • Implementation of fire service rules and municipal bye-laws
  • Compliance with State Fire Service Acts and guidelines
  • Support to enforcement agencies in prosecution of violations
